Seung Hyun Jang has extensive experience in U.S. and foreign intellectual property matters. Seung Hyun Jang’s diverse practice includes patent prosecution, evaluating infringement and validity positions, patent clearance, preparing inter partes reviews (IPR) before Patent Trial and Appeals Board (PTAB), and litigations in U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), U.S. Department of Commerce and federal courts.

His substantial experience, as an engineer and IP manager with more than ten years in corporate research and development, has contributed to his ability to advise engineers and IP managers who seek to maximize their return on investment through the development and management of internal IP processes and the alignment of their patent portfolio with a strategic business plan. While involving in all aspects of intellectual property law, Seung Hyun Jang predominantly focuses on patent prosecution and opinion work in the mechanical, electrical and aeronautics field of art. Representative areas of technical expertise include autonomous and connected vehicle technologies, vehicle powertrain and engine systems, fuel cell systems, battery and energy storage technologies, thermal management and cooling systems, vehicle body structures, urban air mobility, aerospace technologies, and medical devices.

Prior to joining Lempia Summerfield Katz, Seung Hyun Jang spent more than nine years with Brinks Gilson & Lione, a prominent intellectual property law firm in Chicago that is now part of Crowell & Moring, where he served as a senior associate. During his tenure at Brinks, he gained extensive experience in patent litigation, patent prosecution, and strategic intellectual property counseling.

Non-Legal Experience

Seung Hyun Jang began his professional career at Hyundai Motor Company, working at the Hyundai and Kia R&D Center as a mechanical engineer and intellectual property manager. In these roles, he gained extensive technical and business experience in product design, testing, development, manufacturing, quality assurance, budgeting, and patent portfolio management. This combination of engineering and in-house intellectual property experience provides him with a practical understanding of the technical, business, and strategic considerations involved in developing and protecting innovative technologies.
